The Top 3 Things to Detoxify Your Home

The Top 3 Things to Detoxify Your Home

It's estimated that our homes and what we have and use inside our homes are three times more toxic than our outside environment.  Here, we'll discuss the top three things you can do to greatly eliminate your exposure to toxins right inside your home.

Toxic Chemicals in Your Body:

- BPA is found in 9 out of 10 Americans
- PFC's, PBDE's and phthalates are found in 99% of pregnant women
- 232 toxic chemicals were found in umbilical cord blood from U.S. newborns and over half of these toxins are known carcinogens.

PFC's (perfluorinated compounds) are used in clothing, cookware, food containers and carpets.

BPA (bisphenol A) is used in food can linings, baby bottles, receipt paper, CD's and DVD's and most personal care products.

Formaldehyde is used in carpeting, personal care products, soaps and detergents, cabinetry and glues and adhesives.

Phthalates are used in air fresheners, paper, vinyl tile, wood varnishes and lacquers.

PBDE's (plybrominated diphenyl esthers) are used in furniture, electrical equipment and TV and computers.

Fluoride, a neurotoxin, is mostly found in drinking water and fluoride toothpaste.

Our health is being put at risk.  Fertility problems are up 44% between 1982 and 2002.  Asthma rates are 3 times higher since 1980 and there's a strong connection between asthma and toluene and formaldehyde.  Parkinson's disease is linked to trichloroethylene and other chemicals.  Parkinson's disease is expected to be at a 100% increase by 2030.

It's obvious that exposure to these chemicals are harming our health and nobody can be COMPLETELY removed from the exposures,  However, there are things we can do that can GREATLY reduce our exposure to these chemicals so we can begin our journey back to health.

Top 3 Things to Detoxify Your Home

1) Fluoride-free toothpaste: It's recommended to brush our teeth twice per day.  Most, conventional toothpastes contain fluoride.  Make sure to invest in fluoride-free toothpaste.  There are literally dozens of quality brands.  Make sure to read ingredients.

2) Drinking Water and Showering/Bathing: You should be consuming at least half of your body weight in ounces in water.  If you're drinking tap water, bottled water, or water from another unclean source, that's quite a bit of toxic exposure to chemicals.  The best water to drink is from a quality carbon source filter.  This is best for hydration.  For cooking, cleaning and washing your body, a quality whole-home filtration source will work.  If it isn't practical to have a whole-home filtration unit, invest in a carbon shower filter.  If you're bathing in unclean water, it's being absorbed into your body.

***Side note: I don't have any affiliation or interest with certain brands.  It's in your best interest to do diligent research on what brands to purchase.

3) Personal Care Products:  Nearly everything we use on our bodies, wash our clothes with, and clean our house with is toxic.  Again, there are many great brands of personal care products that do not have the toxic ingredients.  Here's what you want to avoid when deciding on which to go with:

- SLS
- propolyne glycol
- aluminum
- phthlates
- PCB's
- bromine
- benzene
- dioxins

It may seem daunting but the making these small changes will go a long way to greatly reduce your exposure to these toxins.
